Harry Wayne Casey-”KC” of the Sunshine Band celebrates his birthday today-so let’s pull out the platform shoes and “Get Down Tonight”!
The pride of Opa-Locka, KC and his writing partner Richard Finch were a crucial part of the mid to late 70′s “Miami Sound”-with the incredible output of smash hits from Miami’s TK Records; plus the amazing output from Criteria Studios, where the Bee Gees created the music of Saturday Night Fever.
For a brief period, from early ’75 through 1977 in particular, KC’s music seemed to be the only thing you heard on the radio. Five #1 hits (“Get Down Tonight” was the first), a Grammy Award, the first #1 hit of the 80′s (“Please Don’t Go”) and multi-platinum albums will do that. And, to this day-their songs continue to delight, whether you’re hearing them on Q105 or when they play in concert. Check out this amazing live version of “Get Down Tonight”, on the “Midnight Special”.
Happy Birthday, KC-thanks for the music!
