The first piece of Super Bowl ad controversy has begun as Volkwagen has released one of its commercials to be played during the game.

The commercial is titled “Get Happy.” It involves miserable office workers and one happy guy named “Dave” who speaks with a Jamaican accent and is always happy because he drives a Volkswagen.

Is this ad racist?

Volkswagen doesn’t think so, as they screened the commercial for a number of Jamaicans who all thought it was cool, and everything was done to ensure the accent was accurate.

Just in case, though, Volkswagen has other commercials to use in place of this one in case the court of public opinion goes the other way.
