How much do you know about the flu? Let’s take the Huffington Post quiz.

Answer these questions true or false.

#1) The flu shot can give you the flu.

False! You cannot get the flu from being vaccinated.

#2) If you’ve already had a flu shot, you’re guaranteed to be flu-free.

False! You’re only about 60 percent protected, according to the CDC.

#3) Antibiotics can fight the flu.

False! Antibiotics fight bacteria, not viruses. The flu (and colds) are caused by viruses.

#4) You can get the flu from being in the cold, from not wearing a coat, or if you have wet hair.

False! The only way to catch the flu is to come into contact with the virus that causes it.

#5) If you’re young and healthy, you don’t need the flu shot.

False! Even though the young and healthy are not in the biggest at-risk groups, the simple fact is: The more people who are vaccinated, the fewer cases of flu there are to pass around.

#6) There’s no treatment for the flu.

False! The antiviral drugs that are available can reduce the length of time you are sick, and make you less contagious to others.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that this year’s flu season is expected to be one of the worst the country has seen in 10 years, so talk to your doctor about getting vaccinated. And take other precautions, such as washing your hands frequently with hot soapy water.
