If you’re looking for a gift for the Peter Frampton fan in your life (or for yourself), you might want to pick up a copy of FCA! 35 Tour: An Evening With Peter Frampton, a live DVD and album recorded on Frampton’s tour celebrating the 35th anniversary of his breakthrough, Frampton Comes Alive! The concert saw Frampton playing one set revisiting the entire Frampton Comes Alive! LP, and another covering the rest of his career, from his former band Humble Pie’s cover of Ray Charles’ “I Don’t Need No Doctor” to his recent Grammy-winning solo take on Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”
Frampton discussed various approaches to live performances with CBS Local: On one hand, there’s artists like Bob Dylan and Lou Reed, who don’t feed off the audience response. Frampton, on the other hand, has a much warmer relationship with the people who have paid to see him perform. He also loves playing live because, as he puts it, “there’s no ‘take two.’”
In a note to fans on his Facebook page, Frampton wrote about FCA! 35. “It is something I am very proud of. It will most likely never sell enough to cover the cost of making it. But that’s absolutely fine with me. I didn’t do it to make money. I put it out because I have been asked for years, ‘Where’s the film of Comes Alive?’ There was just never any taken at the time.” He also notes that he’s planning on touring in 2013.
