Hey, if you think President Obama is going to pay your utility bills, he’s not! It’s a scam!

The Better Business Bureau recently warned that identity thieves are preying on vulnerable people, by claiming that a new federal aid program will pay their utility bills. People are getting the scam messages through phone calls, text messages, fliers and on Facebook.

2,000 TECO customers in Tampa reportedly tried to pay their bills with phony account information last week. And, that’s just Tampa.

The scam keeps spreading, especially among Facebook users who are sharing what they believe to be a good deal with their friends.

The bottom line: Don’t give your social security number or account information to strangers. And if you think you’ve been contacted by a scammer, call the police.
