The Beach Boys preview their 50th anniversary international reunion tour at the Grammy Awards (Sunday night at 8 on CBS, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles). It’s the first time all of the band’s surviving original members will perform live together. Missing will be Beach Boys’ drummer Dennis Wilson, who died in 1983, and guitarist Carl Wilson, who died in 1998. They haven’t always worked and played well together.
They’ve made a lot of great music, and their lawyers have made a big share of that surf music money. But all that should be kept off the stage at the Grammys. More albums are ahead, highlighting their 50th anniversary celebration the band’s entire catalog, with several new commemorative releases planned for 2012, including a new hits collection and, if you REALLY love the Beach Boys, there will be a 50 year career-spanning box set available.
Sunday night will be a night filled with music of all kinds. Performances from Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Adele, Coldplay and Rihanna. LL Cool J will be the host…the first one since they went host-less in 2006.
