This news is nothing new! Abbey Road vinyl sales are actually INCREASING year by year: 34,800 in 2009, 35,000 in 2010 and 41,000 copies in 2011, making the album number one for the last 3 years in a row. Here’s the rest of the Top 10 according to Nielsen Sound Scan:

I can remember bringing home a copy of Abbey Road as a kid and having a ton of friends in the neighborhood knocking at the front door, begging to hear it. Truly, a musical masterpiece!
