Chuck Mangione, with Chris Vadala (L) and Grant Geissman, Performing "Feels So Good" (video still)
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Chuck Mangione[/lastfm] was born in Rochester, NY, not so far from my hometown that he couldn’t come to town and play the local high school once a year. So, when he became a pop star for a few minutes in 1978, I was well aware of who he was…and got to hear the full Feels So Good set in a cozy 300-seat auditorium.
“Feels So Good” was as ubiquitous as the flu in 1978 but, thirty years hence, it sounds pretty fresh again, especially this version.
This is a live version from The Midnight Special. I’m pretty sure that’s Chris Vadala on sax and Grant Geissman on guitar, with James Bradley, Jr. on drums. As I recall, he was 19 at the time and, suffice it say, he was a “mutha.”
