The downsizing by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Company isn’t confined to Orlando. On the anniversary of its separation from Anheuser-Busch-InBev, SeaWorld managers announced it would be eliminating 350 jobs from its ten theme parks across the U.S. A third of the cuts will come out of the headquarters and three theme parks based in Orlando, and 125 jobs are being cut at Busch Gardens. One position is being eliminated at Adventure Island. Profits and attendance figures were both down for the theme park company this year.

Jurors convicted a Largo man on charges that he tried to commit so-called “suicide by cop” in December of 2008 in Taylor Park. Tony Wright pointed an unloaded BB gun at police, hoping they would kill him.  The officers shot 26 rounds at Wright, hitting him five times in the chest and feet. Still, Wright survived and was found guilty on two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Wright’s lawyer sought to have his client treated at a mental hospital, but the judge ordered him to spend five years in prison followed by house arrest and probation.

Deputies have made an arrest in connection with the Thanksgiving Day shootings in Ruskin that killed two men and injured four others. Investigators say that Michael Keetley was acting as a vigilante when he shot up the house one week ago. However, detectives say Keetley fired at the wrong house. Keetley was working in an ice cream truck in January, when he was shot and wounded during a robbery. He was apparently looking to take revenge on his attackers, but was given bad information about who was to blame for the heist. Keetley is charged with two counts of murder for killing brothers, Juan and Sergio Guitron. He also faces four counts of attempted murder.

A suspect awaiting trial on sex abuse charges in Hernando County faces new allegations that he tried to hire a hit man to kill his public defender, as well as the prosecutor handling his case. William Faiella was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a person under 12 and promoting sexual activity by someone under 16. Facing serious jail time, Faiella allegedly offered a confidential informant three-thousand dollars each for the murders of an assistant state attorney and his public defender. Investigators have Faiella on tape and even have the IOU he gave the informant. He now faces additional charges of solicitation to commit murder.

Police have cleared an Edgewater High School teacher of any wrongdoing after she was accused of having a sexual relationship with three students. Amber Elery resigned her position when she was suspended by the school last month. Police and the Department of Children and Families investigated the claims, talked to the students who were allegedly involved, and found nothing to back up the claims. Elery taught English as a second language and worked at the school for just over a year.
