Bruce Springsteen has been speaking about documentary The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town, which premiered at the Toronto film festival this week. The album marked, he said, the start of a conversation with fans that has continued throughout his career (Spinner.com).
The team at Last.fm Trends thought they’d check out how that conversation has been going, and reveal the most-played tracks from Darkness On The Edge Of Town.

Of course, lead track “Badlands” takes the bulk of the plays. It’s one of Springsteen’s best-loved tracks, and crops up on many of his compilations albums alongside heavy hitters like “Born To Run” and “Atlantic City”.
Most of the tracks capture similar numbers, tied together as a whole by some pretty angry lyrics from the still-young Springsteen. Even then “The Promised Land” and “Darkness On The Edge Of Town” come off well, each straddling the 200,000 scrobble mark. For songs more than thirty years old that’s an impressive achievement.
