Capitol Records lost out on the soundtrack album for ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ to another record label. (Ref: How Capital Records Blew It With ‘A Hard Day’s Night’) So what did they do? They took eight songs from the original British release, added both sides of an American single (Slow Down/Matchbox) and filled out the 11th track with the German release of ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’. Clocking in at well under 30 minutes it wasn’t a great value time wise, but that didn’t matter. It was The Beatles, it had a kool color cover shot of the group on The Ed Sullivan Show, ans anything the group put out would’ve sold. Capitol knew it, and they stuck it to us with this one. And yes the mono and stereo discs had different versions of some of the songs, but that’s a whole other story.
What do you think? Was this your favorite Beatle album? If not, what was? Love to hear from you
